Pairing & Bluetooth
Reading time: ~3 min
Normal pairing flow
- Power on the ArchAI device. On first boot it enters provisioning mode automatically — you'll see a QR code on the screen.
- Open the ArchAI app on your iPhone and tap Add Device.
- The app shows a list of nearby devices in the format VoiceAssist-XXXX. Select yours.
- Enter your home WiFi SSID and password in the app. The device will connect and reboot.
- When the main screen appears with your name and mode, setup is complete.
Device doesn't show up in the list
- Confirm the device is in provisioning mode — the screen should show a QR code. If not, hold the press-to-talk button for 3 seconds during boot to factory-reset into provisioning.
- Check that Bluetooth is on in iPhone Settings. The app needs it for discovery.
- The ArchAI app must have Bluetooth permission (Settings → ArchAI → Bluetooth). iOS sometimes revokes this if the app hasn't been opened in a while.
- Bring the iPhone within ~10 feet of the device. Walls weaken the signal.
- Kill and reopen the app. Bluetooth discovery can get into a stuck state on iOS.
Pairing hangs on "sending credentials"
The app now times out automatically after 45 seconds. If you see the error screen:
- Double-check your WiFi password. The device can't tell you whether the password was wrong vs. unreachable network — both look the same.
- Make sure your network is 2.4 GHz (or dual-band). The ArchAI hardware does not support 5 GHz-only networks.
- Restart pairing by unplugging the device and holding the press-to-talk button while it boots.
Re-pairing an already-paired device
If you're moving homes or changing WiFi networks:
- Power off the device.
- Press and hold the press-to-talk button while powering back on. Release when the provisioning QR code appears.
- This clears saved WiFi credentials and re-enters provisioning mode. Pair as normal.
